Submit your Art for Supercrawl

Advertising calls for submission isn’t necessarily part of the new master plan for this blog, but the narrow timeline on this one calls for all the publicity possible. With a deadline of September 15, this is a great opportunity to showcase an exhibition-ready, outdoor-friendly work in this major Hamilton art event at the end of the month.

Supercrawl is pleased to announce an opportunity for local artists to be showcased as part of this year’s festival on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Artists in Hamilton have played a key role in making James Street North a vibrant and exciting neighborhood and as such Supercrawl’s Curatorial Committee would like to invite artists working in a wide range of mediums to propose works for display during Supercrawl.

Supercrawl is an annual event that celebrates the unique mix of cultures, businesses and creative people along James Street North in Hamilton. The event this year is expected to draw around 5000 people to the area and we hope you can take part.

Work selected by the Curatorial Committee will be shown within the street closure between York Blvd/Wilson Street down to Barton Street. The Committee is interested in all mediums including installation art, performance art, mural art and new media. Ideally, submissions should be able to be displayed outdoors either as 2D work installed on a wall or a sculptural object viewed in-the-round. Specific locations will be determined as submissions are received. There are potential locations to consider such as, along the sidewalk of the enclosure and Acclamation Restaurant fencing. Video content will be displayed on one of two screens that will be located beside the two stages.

Disclaimer: Yes, I do happen to be sitting on the Curatorial Committee mentioned above and therefore have a vested interest in wanting to increase my odds of seeing some fantastic work at that jury. Is that so wrong? Yeah, didn’t think so.
