Update: Sky Dragon Community Meeting

In the interests of viral proliferation, I’d like to throw down a quick update on the Sky Dragon Centre’s mission to save itself from foreclosure - and in turn, to save our arts community from the loss of a uniquely valuable institution among our number.

As promised, the people at Sky Dragon have announced a second meeting following their first impromptu get-together earlier this month. Any and all are welcome to attend, get an update on the particulars, and contribute solutions to these financial challenges.

Save the Dragon

Monday March 29

Ricca’s Furniture Building

228 James St. North, Hamilton

7 pm to 9 pm

Quoting from the Save the Dragon blog, the campaign has also put out a call for the following help:

A $270,000 first mortgage (provided by one person, ten people, 20 people, etc….)

Pro-bono legal and accounting help

Financial Donations (charitable receipts will be issued for donations of $25 or more)

Help putting up posters and handing out flyers for the Community Meeting
Help disseminating update emails

Volunteer help for upcoming events, including the May 1st Mayday Festival, the April 17th & 19th Halton Eco-Fest, and other Centre projects as needed

Tangible ways in which the Coop can be supported (know anyone who wants to buy some locally roasted Fair Trade / Organic Coffee?)

Becoming a member of the new Coop! (details TBA at the Community Meeting)

More details for volunteer needs are listed at another post here, and for those passing through the neighbourhood there is also a whiteboard installed at Sky Dragon for collating the big picture and collecting community suggestions.

For further background, Carmela Fragomeni at the Hamilton Spectator has thankfully stepped up with an article on the possible foreclosure that I trust has helped opened awareness beyond our immediate cultural community. Given the circumstances, the wider a net we can cast, the better the chances that the Sky Dragon will pull through this crisis.
