I’ve been embroiled tonight (and last weekend) in shortlisting meetings with the Hamilton Artists Inc. as part of an ongoing epic battle to reduce a field of ninety applications into some six-to-eight main exhibitions for 2009/2010. I’ll no doubt be commenting further on this in the very near future, but that’s a discussion best left for a more wakeful day and time.
Thankfully, I’ve been recently introduced to the video work of Jeremy Bailey, who was one of a number of artists on show at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo as part of the recently-wrapped Beyond in Western New York, yet another biennale-styled, arty-party-type… thing. However it goes. In either case, the good Mr Bailey has been kind enough to present his commissioned video, Transhuman Dance Recital #1 (along with the rest of his work) on his website, and I strongly urge you to check it out. Especially after too many hours spent reading the ridiculously transcendental claims of various artist’s statements of late, seeing someone literally crank the post-human paradigm to eleven for the sake of a fantastic laugh makes this whole debacle worthwhile.
Just don’t forget that the happy, blinking blue triangle got there first.
